I, too, largely experienced this world by proxy, in the stories of bt relatives and friends. Having said this, to think about it, it does cover various topics like traditional and modern conflicts, naturopathy and Gandhian lifestyle of simplicity, but in an effortless manner without underscoring bg topic in particular.

Never will I tire of reading and rereading this book, or for that matter, any of R Vendor of sweets by rk narayan Narayan’s books. The Printer of Malgudi.

As usual, he lacks courage to confront his son on any matter and Mali eventually leaves ov America. We’ll contact you shortly. It was, in fact, already disappearing in the decades that Narayan wrote his Malgudi works; the novels and stories are, as it were, a portrait sketched in vapour.

Jagan, lost and faltering, unable to cope fully with the clash of his traditional values with the modern world, resolves absurdly to retreat across the river, taking his bank vendor of sweets by rk narayan with him, after agreeing to pay for a lawyer for Mali and offering an airline ticket for Grace to return to America: He plays the part of a bridge between the conventional father and the unconventional son. I do not think this relationship is typical of Indian families.
How will Jagan free himself from the coils of this complicated situation? The entire story revolves around the central figure lagan, the protagonist, a prosperous and flourishing sweet-vendor in Malgudi. Troubled by this turmoil, Jagan decides to retire from active working.

He is a staunch believer in Gandhian ideologies of simple living. And his loyalty to Gandhi has made him an outcast from his close relations, although he is quite happy to be one since he can escape a number of tiresome family festivals and funerals.
